This office works to promote the religious education and spiritual growth of pre-school and elementary school students who participate in Parish religious education programs by forming and supporting catechetical directors and their catechists. We do this through such efforts as:
Catechetical Leadership Certification
The Diocese of Colorado Springs utilizes the Effective DRE series, a joint project of NCCL and Loyola Press, for certification of parish directors and coordinators of formation programs and as the theological certification of our teachers of religion in the Catholic schools. This office as part of this program offers four workshops a year and one spiritual retreat day. Further information about this program is included in the Leading the Way booklet available from the certification link
The Diocese of Colorado Springs has adopted the “Echoes of Faith Plus” series as the basis for catechist formation and certification. This video-assisted series was developed by NCCL and produced by RCL. The Diocesan Resource Center has three sets of the series, including on Spanish language set, for the parishes to use. This office will organize facilitator training and provide assistance to any parish wishing to use the program. Further information about catechist certification is included in the Sharing the Way booklet available from the parishes or the certification link.
Festival of Faith
This is an annual meeting that brings religious educators from across Colorado together for education, prayer and fellowship.
Retreats and Days of Reflection
Yearly retreat days are planned to minister to the spiritual renewal of our directors and catechists
This office has formatted essential curricula for grades kindergarten through sixth. They are based on the eight domains of ACRE (Assessment for Catechesis/Religious Education from the national office of Religious Education, NCEA, in Washington D. C.).
This office has developed Diocesan policies for the First Celebration of the Sacrament of Penance with children, the Celebration of First Holy Communion with children, Infant Baptism and Confirmation.
This office will generate an electronic newsletter to all parish catechetical directors to encourage and support their professional efforts.
