COLORADO SPRINGS. The Colorado Springs Council for Black Catholics will hold its annual Mardi Gras fundraiser, benefiting the St. Martin de Porres Scholarship Fund, on Feb. 25 from 6-11 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 567 Marquette in Security. Our Lady of the Pines Parish in Black Forest will host a “Living Stations of the Cross” on March 3 at 7 p.m. This family-friendly original presentation features many parish families bringing to life the journey of our Lord through prayer, dramatic lighting, inspirational music, narration and dramatic movement. COLORADO SPRINGS. The Colorado Springs St. Luke’s Guild of the Catholic Medical Association will hold its first retreat and conference March 10-11 at Franciscan Retreat Center on the grounds of Mount St. Francis. The event begins March 10 at 5 p.m. at the retreat center with a reception sponsored by Penrose-St. Francis Hospital, followed by dinner and stations of the cross at St. Francis of Assisi Church. On March 11, the conference continues with Mass celebrated by Bishop Michael Sheridan and talks by Dr. Abraham Nussbaum, Deacon Scotty Bowen, Larry Seidl of Penrose-St. Francis Hospital and Deacon Alan Rastrelli of Divine Mercy Supportive Care. The St. Cecilia Schola Children’s Choir, under the direction of Eliana Murphy-Ellis, will perform “Malice in the Palace: the Story of Esther” March 3-5 in the Corpus Christi school gym. On March 3, there will be shows at 1:45 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. On March 4, there will be a show at 6:30 p.m. On March 5, the show will be performed at 12:30 p.m. Admission is free.

COLORADO SPRINGS. The 2017 Notre Dame Hesburgh Lecture, sponsored by the Notre Dame Club of Colorado Springs, will take place April 6 at 7 p.m. at Marian House soup kitchen, 14 W. Bijou St. The featured speaker will be Notre Dame economics professor James Sullivan. Together with Bill Evans, he is the co-founder of the Wilson Sheehan Lab for Economic Opportunities, a research center that works with service providers and government agencies to find research-driven solutions to poverty in the U.S. Sullivan and Evans have worked with Catholic Charities agencies across the nation.  For more information, contact Colin O’Neil at colino53@hotmail.com
