COLORADO SPRINGS. The Colorado Springs Council for Black Catholics is accepting applications for St. Martin De Porres scholarships for the 2017-18 school year. Any student entering fourth grade and above at a Catholic school in the Diocese of Colorado Springs is eligible to apply. Completed application and related documents must be received by May 22. PARKER. Greg and Julie Alexander, founders of the Covenant of Love Date Night program, will present a “Strong Catholic Marriage” workshop at Ave Maria Parish in Parker on June 23-24. COLORADO SPRINGS. Catholic Charities of Central Colorado is accepting applications for mini-grants in amounts of $500-$2,500. The purpose of the mini-grant program is to encourage and support initiatives at the parish and community level. Funds for mini-grants come from the collections taken in parishes for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development and Catholic Relief Services. Twenty-five percent of funds collected are retained by the diocese. Priority will be given to projects that involve the parish or surrounding community in encountering the poor; bring dignity to the poor and vulnerable either through advocacy or direct service; or are less established and need seed funds. Projects must be affiliated with a church, school or other 501c3 organization, and recipients must be willing to track the number of people helped with the ministry. Applications are due June 16. COLORADO SPRINGS. Norman Hale, former principal of Corpus Christi School, was killed in a car accident in Kansas on April 5. He was 52 years old. Hale was born Nov. 19, 1964 in Mineral Wells, Texas. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University in Pueblo and a master’s degree from the University of Phoenix. Hale had also served as principal at Holy Trinity School and a football coach at St. Mary’s High School before moving to Nebraska in 2006. There he served as principal of St. Mary’s School in O’Neill and St. Patrick’s School in Elkhorn.  He is survived by his wife Carolyn and two sons.
