Fatima messages are relevant today, says noted speaker

COLORADO SPRINGS. The three Portuguese children to whom the Blessed Mother appeared six times in 1917 were not chosen at random but rather were open to Mary’s messages because of the spiritual preparation they had undergone — a lesson that we should all take to heart, Jesuit Father Mitch Pacwa told a record-breaking crowd at Pikes Peak Center in downtown Colorado Springs on Aug. 4.

FATIMA, Portugal. St. Jacinta’s “insatiable” thirst to sacrifice daily for souls and St. Francisco’s devotion to praying the rosary were on the hearts of pilgrims who joined more than half a million people to attend the May 13 Mass in Fatima, Portugal, during which the two children were canonized by Pope Francis. Pilgrims traveled by all modes of transportation — even walking sticks — from near and far to pay tribute on the 100th anniversary of the first of six once-per-month visions of Mary to three children of Fatima.

COLORADO SPRINGS. Father Jason Keas, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Cheyenne Wells and St. Augustine Parish in Kit Carson, served alongside Denver’s Archbishop Samuel Aquila at the Thanksgiving Mass for the canonization of St. Teresa Calcutta on Sept. 4.

He then concelebrated with Cardinal James Stafford for the first ever feast day of St. Teresa on Sept. 5. Both Masses were held at St. Joseph’s Church in Denver.
