PARKER. For the past two years, Ave Maria Catholic Parish Youth Ministry and its young people have dedicated their weekly prayers to individuals in law enforcement. When the youth gather for faith formation classes, they are given the name of an officer to pray for and send them a card.

COLORADO SPRINGS. Beginning in May, a new type of prayer experience is being offered at Holy Apostles Parish. Called simply “Awaken,” the event is designed to appeal to people from all walks of life who want an intimate prayer experience and an opportunity to draw closer to God.

COLORADO SPRINGS. Exactly one year after the beginning of 24/7 eucharistic adoration at Holy Apostles Parish, Bishop Michael Sheridan officially dedicated the Divine Mercy Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament following the 9 a.m. Mass on Feb. 11.

COLORADO SPRINGS. A diocesan-wide group that helped lay people grow in their faith recently held their final retreat on Feb. 17. Participants and the team who staffed the retreats met for a farewell party in the home-like upstairs meeting room of Mary’s House on the grounds of Holy Apostles Parish, remembering the blessings of the past seven years.

COLORADO SPRINGS. Holiness and fun were the twin themes of the High School Rally that took place Jan. 19-21 at the Great Wolf Lodge in northern Colorado Springs.

The event, titled “Rooted in Christ,” from Colossans 2:7, offered the students a chance to hang out with friends, enjoy an indoor water park, and take part in retreat events that involved worship, catechesis, and for some, a life-changing experience of the power and love of the Holy Spirit.


 

Stefanick’s ‘Reboot’ message extends to those behind bars

BUENA VISTA. When nationally-known Catholic speaker Chris Stefanick gave his signature “Reboot” presentation at Buena Vista High School on Jan. 10, his message was heard by not only by the roughly 550 people in the audience but also by dozens of inmates at the Buena Vista Correctional Facility.

COLORADO SPRINGS. The sacrament of Penance has been widely promoted within the Church in the past few years. During the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, from Dec. 8, 2015 through Nov. 20, 2016, Pope Francis called for extended times and opportunities for the sacrament. With this year’s 100th Anniversary of the apparitions of the Blessed Mother at Fatima, Portugal, culminating on Oct. 13, 2017, the faithful were reminded of her repeated exhortations for prayer, reparation and penance.
