COLORADO SPRINGS. Msgr. John Slattery, the first vicar general of the Diocese of Colorado Springs and founding pastor of St. Patrick Parish, died Nov. 28 at age 87. Msgr. Slattery had been residing at Mount St. Francis Nursing Center.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 5 at St. Patrick Church, followed by burial in the priests’ section at Evergreen Cemetery.

COLORADO SPRINGS. A forum on religious freedom titled “Religious Liberty: Now and Forever” will take place on Sept. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Apostles Parish. The event is sponsored by the Colorado Catholic Conference and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

COLORADO SPRINGS. Bishop Michael Sheridan will host a “Facebook Live” discussion on the issue of clergy sexual abuse on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. Participants can view the discussion and submit questions on the Diocese of Colorado Springs’ Facebook page, www.facebook.com/CatholicDioceseCOS. Questions may also be submitted in advance at socialmedia@diocs.org.

In a pastoral letter that was sent to all parishes in the diocese on Aug. 24, Bishop Sheridan stated, “I join with my brother bishops in our determination to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to provide effective oversight of ourselves, as well as complete transparency whenever — and against whomever — a credible accusation of abuse is made.”

Bishop Sheridan will also celebrate a Mass of Reparation at St. Mary’s Cathedral on Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. All are invited.
