The Case for Support
Seminarian and Leadership Development
There are currently ten men in seminary, studying and undergoing formation for eventual service within the Diocese of Colorado Springs. The Appeal provides the necessary funding for men to attend the seminary and become priests in service to our diocese.
Deacons share in Christ’s mission and grace in a special way... Among other tasks, it is the task of deacons to assist the bishop and priests in the celebration of the divine mysteries, above all the Eucharist, in the distribution of Holy Communion, in assisting at blessing marriages, in the proclamation of the Gospel and preaching, in presiding over funerals, and in dedicating themselves to the various ministries of charity. (CCC 1570)
Permanent Deacons assist priests by engaging in pastoral and liturgical tasks. The Returning God’s Gifts Appeal funds education and formation for deacons, before and after ordination.
Lay Leadership Development
To help laity impact the culture by developing their faith more deeply and living it as strong witnesses in every area of their lives.
Faith Formation and Catholic Schools
Through Total Catholic Education the diocese integrates the many forms of parish and school catechetical and educational ministries into one united vision, providing support for parishes and schools for adults, youth and children that they may grow in faith and live more authentically each day.
“The Church is bound as a mother to give to these children of hers an education by which their whole life can be imbued with the spirit of Christ” Gravissimum Educationis, p.3
There are 5 Catholic elementary schools, two Catholic preschools and one Catholic high school in the Diocese of Colorado Springs. Returning God’s Gifts provides tuition assistance to K-12 Catholic school students who wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend.
The Appeal supports youth ministry by providing activities and organization to parish youth groups. Activities include junior high and high school youth rallies and an annual Chastity Rally. It also supports planning and logistics for youth pilgrimages to national conferences and World Youth Day.
Charity and Social Services
RGG provides support for the 75 services that Catholic Charities of Central Colorado offers throughout the ten counties in the diocese. Services are offered from four locations: The Catholic Pastoral Center, Castle Rock, Helen Hunt Campus, and the Marian House complex. Catholic Charities delivers services to those in need in four main areas:
Family Services is comprised of Family Connections, Family Immigration Services, and Life Connections. These programs offer comprehensive services to families who seek our help. Family Connections helps families in crisis through family coaching/case management, provides services to help transition families out of homelessness, or helps families achieve a greater level of stability. Some families will arrive in crisis and need emergency help such as food, clothing, baby needs or access to the Family Day Center. Family Immigration Services provide affordable legal services to low-income individual and families living within our 10-county service area to help families that have a path to legal residency/citizenship. The program is recognized by the Department of Justice to provide accurate advice and low-cost fees. Services include Know Your Rights presentations and Citizenship classes. Life Connections is a licensed, non-profit child placement agency and provides low cost Adoption, Pregnancy Support Services, and Early Childhood Development programs. It also provides post-abortion healing through Project Rachel, Relinquishment Counseling, and Search & Reunion services.
Paths to Opportunity
Paths to Opportunity describes a variety of services that provide families and individuals with the tools to pursue opportunities for personal and professional development. It includes English as a Second Language classes at four locations, Life Skills & Career Development Center, which has helped fill over 250 jobs, and Legal & Tax Assistance.
Health & Well Being
Health services include Catholic Charities Counseling for families, individuals, couples and faith-based counseling through licensed counselors as well as Prenatal and Childbirth Education classes. Other Health Resources and Benefits Enrollment is available at the Marian House through a myriad of partner agencies.
Emergency Services are essential to stabilize families and individuals so they can move forward in life. Catholic Charities offers free, nutritious meals, 365 days a year at the Marian House Soup Kitchen. Other services include access to clothing and necessities, children’s needs, utilities assistance, new home starter kits for clients transitioning from temporary to permanent shelter; phone, mail, and identification services; food boxes; and shelter referrals as well as emergency motel vouchers.
Partners in Housing
Partners in Housing is an organization whose mission is to provide homeless families with children the hope and opportunity to achieve self-sufficiency through supportive services and up to two years of transitional housing. These supportive services include case management, budget counseling, life skills training, and (when beneficial) professional therapy.
