IF YOU HAVE OR KNOW A CHILD IN A PUBLIC OR CHARTER SCHOOL…
September 2013
Catholic parents be aware that a bill was passed in Colorado this summer
requiring sex education in public schools to now begin as early as
kindergarten.
As a parent you have the right to opt your child out of the class but the
way the law was written, you must tell your school. This year the
public school system will automatically enroll your child in this program and
will not let you know. It is important to act on
behalf of maintaining your child's innocence and exposure to views that are
not supported by our Catholic faith. You must inform the school
that you don't want to participate.
The name of the program, Abstinence Plus, is misleading.
An independent review of the chosen curriculum found less that 5% of the
curriculum promotes abstinence and less that 20% presents marriage in a
traditional sacramental view. The link to the curriculum and the independent
review of the curriculum can be found on the diocesan website. You are the
primary educators of your children.
“
The education of our children must extend to their moral education and
their spiritual formation. 'The role of parents in education is of such
importance that it is almost impossible to provide an adequate
substitute' [Vatican II, Gravissum education is).
