The new Pregnancy Center will have a eucharistic adoration chapel upstairs!”

We rejoiced at this news from Father Bill Carmody many years ago.

Some of us have fond memories praying before the Blessed Sacrament in the attic of the Old Colorado City Pregnancy Center. Sure, it was freezing cold in the winter and extremely hot in the summer. In fact, sometimes it was so hot, sweat would drip down the face of the adorer who was there. However, even in those extreme conditions, we were so incredibly blessed to be with Our Lord, asking him to save lives and to stop the abortions that were happening right across the street at Planned Parenthood on Colorado Avenue.

Do I really have to vote in elections? I hate politics!”

I hear this question a lot — especially this year.

Catholics have a moral obligation to promote the common good through the exercise of their voting privileges (Catechism of the Catholic Church, No. 2240).

DENVER. On Nov. 3, Colorado residents will have the opportunity to save the lives of thousands of unborn babies by voting “Yes” on Proposition 115, previously known as Initiative 120, which would prohibit abortions after 22 weeks of pregnancy. Colorado is one of seven states in the country that allows abortion for any reason until birth. Late-term abortion is an extreme and inhumane procedure, and Colorado’s bishops have asked all Catholics in the state to support Proposition 115.

How can you be against Planned Parenthood? Sure, they do some abortions, but they do so many other good things for women!”

As I travel around the Pikes Peak region speaking to youth groups, faith formation classes and community organizations, I often get that question. It makes me realize that Planned Parenthood has done a thorough job of selling their own self-serving narrative to the public — aided and abetted by mainstream media both in the U.S. and other countries.

COLORADO SPRINGS. Life Network’s 2020 Walk for Life looked a little different from previous years, but our “Catholics 4 Life Network” team stepped out in faith and raised over $52,000 in support of the agency. COVID-19 restrictions required Life Network to get creative with their annual fundraising walk, so they took the walk virtual. Since we couldn’t gather at Memorial Park, walkers and runners were encouraged to map a two-mile course in their neighborhoods or nearby recreation areas and trails and then walk or run on June 6 wherever they were.

DENVER. Organizers of a ballot initiative to prohibit abortion in Colorado after 22 weeks, with an exception to save the life of the mother, said because support has been building in recent weeks they turned in more than 48,000 signatures — far more than the 10,000 needed by May 29 to get the measure on the November ballot.

COLORADO SPRINGS. Hundreds of people joined the St. Mary’s High School Students for Life and the Diocese of Colorado Springs Respect Life Apostolate for the annual Rocky Mountain March for Life on Jan. 20. It was a beautiful day as we prayed and marched for the sanctity of life. Carrying new signs declaring that “Civil Rights Begin in the Womb,” we recognized Martin Luther King Jr. Day and proclaimed the sacred value of all life. SMHS Student for Life member Anthony Wilmot emceed the events at the Planned Parenthood sidewalk, including ecumenical prayer and a pro-life rosary, led respectively by Pastor Jeff Anderson and Father Joe Dygert.
