Genevieve Sherpa dies at 91
COLORADO SPRINGS. Genevieve Sherpa, wife of the late Deacon Leo Sherpa, died April 14 in Greeley. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 20 at Holy Apostles Church. Burial followed at Fort Logal National Cemetery in Denver.
Born Sept. 5, 1925 to James and Margaret Magill in West Palm Beach, Florida, she married Leo Sherpa on March 22, 1943. The couple had 10 children.
After the Sherpas moved to Colorado Springs in 1980, Leo Sherpa was asked by Father Paul Wicker, former pastor of Holy Apostles Parish, if he would like to enter formation for the diaconate. He was the first deacon ordained in the Diocese of Colorado Springs in 1984. Genevieve Sherpa served as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, and the couple worked with the mentally disabled and taught “Life in the Spirit” seminars for many years.
She is survived by eight children, eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and two sisters.
