COLORADO SPRINGS. Very little about graduation for the St. Mary’s High School class of 2020 was what they had imagined it would be. However, in her valedictorian speech Katie Morales said the class has always considered itself to be special, so it was only fitting that the class go out in a special way.

COLORADO SPRINGS. Life Network’s 2020 Walk for Life looked a little different from previous years, but our “Catholics 4 Life Network” team stepped out in faith and raised over $52,000 in support of the agency. COVID-19 restrictions required Life Network to get creative with their annual fundraising walk, so they took the walk virtual. Since we couldn’t gather at Memorial Park, walkers and runners were encouraged to map a two-mile course in their neighborhoods or nearby recreation areas and trails and then walk or run on June 6 wherever they were.

COLORADO SPRINGS. Most people are familiar with the dramatic story of Saul on the road to Damascus. The notorious hunter of Christians is thrown to the ground by a flash of light and blinded for three days.

Less well-known is the story of Ananias — the disciple who was asked by God to lay hands on Saul, filling him with the Holy Spirit, restoring his sight and transforming him into the apostle we now know as St. Paul. Given Saul’s ruthless reputation, Ananias could have said “no” to God out of fear or lack of preparation. Instead, as told in Acts 9:10-19, Ananias chose to obey, setting Paul on his apostolic journey and greatly affecting the growth of the Church in the world.

With couples being cooped up together for extended periods of time these past few months, now might be a great time to consider taking advantage of a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Experience Virtual Weekend. Normally, the virtual weekend experience is for couples who can’t get away for the entire weekend for a traditional Marriage Encounter Weekend. It allows couples to sleep in their own beds, and check in on children and animals during the meal time breaks.

COLORADO SPRINGS. Working full time at a homeless center in Boulder was not how Hannah McReavy envisioned spending the last months of her sophomore year at college. In February, McReavy, who graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 2018, was at Providence College in Rhode Island; a month later, she was in Boulder, where her parents now live, finishing the semester virtually as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

COLORADO SPRINGS. St. Paul School has expanded its Early Education Program for the 2020-21 school year to include full-day options for preschool and pre-kindergarten. Full-day preschool for ages 3-4 will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m.-3 p.m., while full-day pre-kindergarten for ages 4-5 will take place Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. To schedule a tour or register, contact Candy at 719-632-1846.

LITTLETON. St. Katharine Drexel School, which is located at Pax Christi Parish in Littleton, will add a fi rst grade class consisting of 10 students for the 2020-21 school year. The school recently graduated its first kindergarten class, said director Mandi Lupher, and plans to continue adding one grade per year.

COLORADO SPRINGS. Looking at the school disruptions caused by the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic of 2020, some of the students that have suffered the most are the seniors whose final semesters and graduations were effectively cancelled in order to stop the spread of the virus. Two graduates and their parents discussed their experiences with virtual graduations and shortened or cancelled sports seasons.
