The Saint Cecilia Schola Cantorum is a Diocesan sponsored youth choral program that meets Wednesdays, August 19 to May 5, at 3:45pm at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Based firmly on the premise that all Catholics are called to actively participate in the liturgy, the SCSC endeavors to teach youth grades K-12 how to sing properly, read melodies and rhythms and understand basic music theory. Though a highly organized graduated curriculum included written homework and final exams, choristers also acquire skills like parts-singing, liturgical understanding and Latin pronunciation, that will give them the confidence to sing out fully, joyfully and confidently in liturgies throughout their Catholic lives. The Saint Cecilia Schola Cantorum is not just a choir to sing pretty songs. It is a musical class for young Catholics that changes lives.
