St. Joseph Gives Us the Formula for a Happy Death

COMMENTARY: What comes after this life will be the greatest story ever told, for we will see in the Father’s eyes the story of our own life and of everyone else’s life in the world.

Last November, I traveled back to my home state of Iowa for my youngest nephew’s wedding. Unexpectedly, my father’s health swiftly declined, and, in God’s providence, I was able to be with my father, Nicholas, the last week of his life. He received all that the Church offers for the dying, including a Mass of Viaticum around his hospice bed with my mother and my sister and her husband in my parent’s home.

Men: Rediscover Your Sonship With God in this Year of St. Joseph

VATICAN CITY — Catholic men desire to deepen their faith because of the need to recover their Christian identity as men, and they can do this partly by spending more time with the Lord in Adoration and prayer, says Andrzej Lewek, the Polish organizer of an International Meeting of Catholic Men taking place in Rome this week.

Made for Love Ep. 67: St. Joseph, Fatherhood, and a Quiet Place

To mark Father’s Day, our chairman Bishop David Konderla joins us to chat about St. Joseph, fatherhood, and Pope Francis’s apostolic letter Patris Corde. Then later we keep the Father’s Day vibes rolling when Kara joins to talk about A Quiet Place (2018) and A Quiet Place Part II (2021), starring Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. It's Not Too Late to Celebrate the Year of St. Joseph

Friends, I have some good news. The Church is still in the midst of the Year of St. Joseph! We have a little more than two months to go in the year that marks the 150th anniversary of Pope Pius IX’s proclamation of Joseph as patron of the universal Church, and it’s not too late to invite St. Joseph into your hearts.

“Each of us can discover in Joseph — the man who goes unnoticed, a daily, discreet and hidden presence — an intercessor, a support and a guide in times of trouble,” Pope Francis wrote in Patris Corde (“With a father’s heart”).

Prayer to St Joseph
By St. Francis de Sales

Glorious St Joseph,
Spouse of the Virgin Mary,
Grant us your paternal protection,
We beg you through the Sacred Heart
of Jesus.
O you who have power over all our
necessities
and can make possible the most
impossible things,
open your fatherly eyes on your
children’s needs.
In the difficulty and trouble we
experience (name them…)
We have recourse to you with trust.
Please take under your loving conduct
these important and difficult matters
that cause us to worry.
Grant that their happy ending be for
God’s glory
and the good of his faithful servants.
Amen
St. Joseph pray for us (3 times)
