During this Semiquincentennial — or 250th anniversary — of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, it is fitting to realize that only one Catholic was allowed to sign that crucial document. His activities both before and after that event were as momentous as any other of the Founding Fathers, but few remember his name. It’s worth revisiting his life story, however, as it contains important lessons about religious freedom and fortitude in the face of persecution.

Pero es de vital importancia que, con todo el ajetreo de la vida, no tengamos negligencia con nuestra vida espiritual. Igual que necesitamos dedicar tiempo a revisar nuestra agenda personal o familiar y planificar nuestros días y semanas para no perder el control de nuestra vida, también deberíamos dedicar tiempo a establecer pautas que rijan y mantengan encarrilada nuestra vida espiritual.

    In Memoriam: Bridget Paton

    Bridget Paton, wife of former diocesan finance officer Wayne Paton and a longtime member of St. Paul Parish, died June 18 at age 69. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 7 at St. Mary’s Cathedral.
