Several local pro-life events will mark Roe v. Wade anniversary

COLORADO SPRINGS. Several events will take place in the Diocese of Colorado Springs in commemoration of the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion in the United States.

On Jan. 19, Pikes Peak Citizens for Life will hold a “Together for Life” gathering at Divine Redeemer Parish. The event begins with a meal at noon, followed by a program at 1 p.m.

On Jan. 20, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Rocky Mountain March for Life will take place, sponsored by the St. Mary’s High School Students for Life and the diocesan Respect Life Apostolate. Participants are asked to park at Corpus Christi Church between 8:15-8:45 a.m. and ride the shuttles to the sidewalk near Planned Parenthood, 3480 Centennial Blvd. An hour of prayer and speakers will begin at 9 a.m., followed by a eucharistic procession back to Corpus Christi. Eucharistic adoration and a Divine Mercy chaplet will begin at 11:30 a.m. Bishop Michael Sheridan will celebrate Mass at noon. Lunch and fellowship will follow in the parish hall.

On Jan. 22, Bishop Sheridan will celebrate the 12:10 p.m. Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral in honor of the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children.

Finally, the Salida Walk for Life will take place Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. The walk will start at the St. Joseph Parish parking lot and end at Riverside Park at 3 p.m. Visit for a complete listing of activities.
