Invitation to vigil commemorating deceased homeless
I wish to invite readers of The Colorado Catholic Herald to the Longest Night of the Year Vigil — a memorial service for local people who died in 2016 as a result of homelessness. On Dec. 21 at 5:30 p.m., come to a candlelight remembrance in the backyard Memorial Garden of Bijou House, 411 W. Bijou St., west of Spruce St. There will be prayer, a welcome and purpose of the vigil, a little music and a reading of the names of the deceased. This service is moving — but not depressing. Dress warmly, share in the vigil, and then warm up in an adjacent meeting hall for refreshments and fellowship. This annual ecumenical vigil is an effort of the Bijou Community, with members of the Catholic faith, the Mennonite faith, and various other faiths.
