Thankful for Bishop Sheridan’s column on freedom
Letter to the Editor
We have all heard of Christmas in July. I would like to propose Thanksgiving in July as well, and here’s why:
Firstly, I would like to thank Bishop Sheridan for the inspiring column titled “Freedom and Responsibility,” published in the July 3 issue of The Colorado Catholic Herald. His words of wisdom relate the simple truth of the beauty of the United States of America and include a brief geographical, civic, historical and religious lesson for all of us in these challenging times. No organization, political or otherwise, as distracting as they may be, can take away the blessings God has given us in the unique founding of America. Thank you, dear Bishop Sheridan, for reminding us of this all-important reality!
Secondly, I would like to thank the Capuchin Franciscans for their immediate and outstanding contribution to our remaining afloat during the COVID pandemic of 2020. When the Stay-at-Home order was put in place, the Capuchins made use of technology, live-streaming Sunday Mass from their friary in Denver, generously offering it to the public. What’s more, soon afterwards they began sending daily messages in video format to greet us with the sweet message: “Good Morning, Good People!” Each day a different friar, many of whom we know from The Catholic Center mall ministry, offers his joyful contribution. What a godsend to the isolation and disconnection felt by many during these times! Thank you, dear Capuchins! God bless you and God bless America!
