Benedictine Sister Catherine Kinen dies at age 87
COLORADO SPRINGS. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 17 at Benet Hill Monastery for Benedictine Sister Catherine Kinen, who died Dec. 1 at age 87.
Sister Catherine was born Sept. 30, 1929 in St. Francis, Kansas. She grew up on a farm and attended Mount St. Scholastica Academy in Atchison, Kansas. In June, 1948, she entered the Benedictine monastery of Mount St. Scholastica and made her final profession on Jan. 1, 1953. For 26 years, Sister Catherine taught kindergarten and first grade in Missouri, Kansas and Colorado. She was a charter member of Benet Hill Monastery. In 1976, Sister Catherine began internal ministry to the sisters, caring for the sick and working in food services at the monastery.
Sister Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Mary Kinen; her two brothers, Gerard and Norbert, and her sister Sylvia Fisher.
