COLORADO SPRINGS. On July 24, the Morning Star Lay Carmelite Community in Colorado Springs hosted a retreat with the theme “Confronting Distractions in Prayer: Insights from The Precautions by St. John of the Cross.” Approximately 50 participants representing the four Lay Carmelite communities in Colorado gathered at Mount St. Francis Retreat Center to pray, learn, and worship together. Carmelite Father Nicholas Blackwell, the retreat master, reflected on the guidance St. John gave to a convent of Spanish discalced nuns.  At the retreat, seven members advanced in their vocations as Lay Carmelites; one was received into the order, two made temporary professions, and four made final professions.
