Deacon Kasper honored for work as fire department chaplain
COLORADO SPRINGS. Deacon Matt Kasper was named the Rookie Volunteer of the Year by the Community Advancing Public Safety (CAPS) program. Deacon Kasper joined the CAPS Team in April 2016 and was assigned to the Colorado Springs Fire Department’s chaplaincy unit. He is credited with over 550 volunteer hours and a record number of death call-outs — 40 in all. “Many of these tragic stories are compounded with family conflicts, which makes the role of a chaplain that much more delicate and difficult to navigate,” stated a press release from CAPS. “Matt handled each call with professionalism, grace and dignity.”
