Sailing on the new Amadeus Silver III ship

COLORADO SPRINGS. For those pilgrims who join Bishop Michael Sheridan and Msgr. Bob Jaeger aboard the bishop’s 2018 Danube River Pilgrimage Cruise, they will have the luxury of sailing in a new ship owned by a Catholic family.

The cruise will take place Oct. 31-Nov. 10, with extensions to either Prague or Czestechowa and Krakow, Poland, also available. Bishop Sheridan, Msgr. Jaeger, pastor of St. Paul Parish in Colorado Springs, former Colorado Catholic Herald editor Bill Howard, and a world-class guide will lead this journey through Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary.

The Amadeus Silver III first set sail last year and already stands out in the competitive river cruise industry. The launch of the ship last year included an onboard Mass. For this pilgrimage, daily Masses will be celebrated in at beautiful churches including the Marian shrine in Altotting (called the “Lourdes of Germany”), Maria Plain Basilica in Salzburg (where a young Mozart honed his gift), St. Martin Cathedral in Bratislava and St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Budapest.

The Amadeus Silver III combines the luxuries of a 5-star hotel with first-class crew service. There are three room decks, with the top featuring 12 luxury suites with walkout balconies. The majority of the other cabins have automatically lowering panorama windows, offering a spectacular view of the passing river landscapes. All cabins have a modern bathroom and a walk-in closet. The top deck of the Silver III features a glass-shielded River Terrace, and the main restaurant offers panoramic views.

A gallery of photos of the ship and rooms is available at: Available cabins are located on the Strauss deck.

Because several other groups are also filling the ship, remaining cabins are claimed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Bishop Sheridan is seeking eight more pilgrims, or four couples. There is also a waiting list for single rooms, which come at an additional cost. Upon request, Select International will help pilgrims traveling alone to find a roommate.

Pricing is based on double occupancy and ranges depending on cabin size from $3,695 to $4,195 cash/check (credit card pricing is also available at a slightly higher cost). While the pilgrimage begins at JFK airport, Select can also book the leg from Denver or Colorado Springs for additional cost. Pilgrims who fly out of Denver will arrive in Munich around the same time as the JFK group.

Should pilgrims travel earlier and want to meet the group in Munich, information on the group’s gathering point will be included in the pre-departure packet by Select 1-2 months prior to the main group’s departure on Oct. 31.
