This past summer, three elderly members of my summer parish in rural Quebec received a diagnosis of cancer at the local hospital, a small-town facility an hour's drive from cosmopolitan Ottawa and even farther from hyper-secular Montreal. Yet after the diagnosis had been delivered, the first question each of these people was asked was "Do you wish to be euthanized?" That is what the new Canadian euthanasia regime has accomplished in just a few months: It has put euthanasia at the top of the menu of options proposed to the gravely ill.

In the course of this presidential election cycle I have given two public addresses to Catholics on responsible voting. Given the tenor of the presidential campaigns, I was not surprised to hear many people say, “I don’t know who to vote for,” or “I don’t think I’ll vote at all.”

The current statement of the bishops on this subject is entitled Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship (FCFC). COLORADO SPRINGS. Father Jason Keas, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Cheyenne Wells and St. Augustine Parish in Kit Carson, served alongside Denver’s Archbishop Samuel Aquila at the Thanksgiving Mass for the canonization of St. Teresa Calcutta on Sept. 4.

He then concelebrated with Cardinal James Stafford for the first ever feast day of St. Teresa on Sept. 5. Both Masses were held at St. Joseph’s Church in Denver.
