Franciscan Sister Guadalupe Torres dies at age 92

COLORADO SPRINGS. Sister of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration Guadalupe Torres died June 25 at age 92 at Mount St. Francis Nursing Center. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 29 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Colorado Springs. Burial followed in the Mount St. Francis cemetery.

COLORADO SPRINGS. St. Mary’s High School speech and debate team members Ben Bodnar and Daniel Zill had one goal going into the 2019-2020 season — qualify for nationals. That goal had been set last year, when they narrowly missed qualifying for the 2019 National Speech and Debate Tournament. The first weekend in March 2020 Bodnar and Zill accomplished their goal, finishing first in the region in duo interpretation at the Colorado Grande District NSDA National Qualifying Tournament. A week later the world began to change.

Recently, the bishops of California made a statement regarding the attacks on the statues of St. Junipero Serra in San Francisco, Ventura, and Los Angeles. While acknowledging that there are legitimate concerns about racism both historical and contemporary, we insisted that the characterization of Serra as the moral equivalent of Hitler and the missions he founded as tantamount to death camps is simply unconscionable.

COLORADO SPRINGS. Diocese of Colorado Springs Finance Officer Bob Doerfler, who has a combined 43 years of service to Divine Redeemer Parish and the diocese, retired June 5. Doerfler worked side by side with Bishop Emeritus Richard Hanifen to establish the diocese’s finance and accounting operations when it was created in 1984.

COLORADO SPRINGS. On June 14, the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, the members of St. Patrick Parish gathered for the opening of their new eucharistic adoration chapel, named Our Lady of Knock Chapel. On that day, Father Michael Goodyear led a eucharistic procession around the church parking lot. After Benediction in the main sanctuary, Father Goodyear processed the Blessed Sacrament to the Our Lady of Knock Chapel. Standing guard was St. Patrick’s Knights of Columbus Assembly 3049 Honor Guard. Parishioners came to adore Jesus throughout the afternoon.
