Advance Care Planning can address racial disparities at end of life care

In March 2022, the Pew Research Center released its report titled “Black Catholics in America.” The statistics are salient for serving Black Catholics. The numbers in this report are mirrored in the Diocese of Colorado Springs in that Black Catholics are a “minority,” and by extension, there are fewer Black Catholics over the age of 65. Older Black Catholics have never been the sole focus of a study. Are we providing them with the best information about end-of-life decisions?

40 Days for Life — Saints Among Us

If we look closely, we will find that there are saints among us.

Evelyn called me one day, many years ago, wanting to get involved with 40 Days for Life. Even in her 90s, she was impressive. She went out to the sidewalk to pray when someone could bring her. She wrote letters to the editor and articles for local newspapers

Holy Apostles Preschool teacher receives grant for ‘classroom makeover’

COLORADO SPRINGS. Samantha Ross, the lead teacher for three-year-olds at Holy Apostles Preschool, was awarded a $1,000 grant from Colorado Springs Utilities for a “classroom makeover.” The grant was awarded through the utility company’s Community Focus Fund and was used to purchase new materials for the classroom. Robyn Tyboroski, assistant teacher at Holy Apostles Preschool, nominated Ross for the grant.

Hospitality is focus of Stewardship Conference

COLORADO SPRINGS. The 2023 Diocese of Colorado Springs Stewardship Conference took place Aug. 23 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Colorado Springs. The conference speakers included Bishop James Golka; Father Brian O’Brien of the Diocese of Tulsa; Eric McArdle, President of Catholic Stewardship Consultants; and Larry Denis III, a seminarian for the Diocese of Honolulu.
