St. Serra Club announces contest winners; annual dinner set for Jan. 9

COLORADO SPRINGS. The St. Serra Club of Colorado Springs announced the winners of its annual Priesthood Appreciation Contest. Students were invited to submit essays, letters, poems, artwork videos or thank-you cards expressing gratitude toward their parish priests. Winners were as follows:

  • Kindergarten: John C.;
  • Third grade: Baird D., Isabell G., Molly T., and Ben F.;
  • Fourth grade: Axton E., Ella D., Arabella C.;
  • Fifth grade: Mary T., Sarah G., Joseph G., Dannya L.;
  • Seventh grade: Alora C., Annamarie N.;
  • Eighth and ninth grades: Audrey D., Balentino S., Nora M. 

The St. Serra Club also announced that it will hold its anniversary dinner and silent auction on Jan. 9 at the St. John Henry Newman Center. Cost is $45 per person, and everyone buying a full-price ticket can bring a priest or sister for $25. Reservations and payment are due Dec. 29. Checks should be sent to Serra, 228 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs 80903.

St. Pat’s outreach extends beyond parish boundaries

COLORADO SPRINGS. As daily news reports shift from mass shootings to depictions of war in Ukraine, it is easy to become desensitized to the suffering of the world. But St. Patrick Parish in Colorado Springs took the message of Pope Francis — to go to the peripheries and bring hope to the suffering — by reorienting their annual Giving Tree project to address needs beyond the boundaries of their local community.
