COLORADO SPRINGS. Bishop James Golka celebrated Mass on Jan. 30 at St. Mary’s Cathedral to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Diocese of Colorado Springs in 1984.

On Jan. 30, 1984, a Mass was held at Pikes Peak Center celebrating the establishment of the Diocese of Colorado Springs and the installation of its first bishop, Richard C. Hanifen. This is a recording of the Mass as broadcast live on KRDO, including the famous "papal bull" incident involving Papal Nuncio Pio Laghi that is often retold by Bishop Hanifen.
