In Memoriam: Evelyn Koprowski
COLORADO SPRINGS. Evelyn Koprowski, a longtime volunteer at Marian House and parishes in the diocese, died Jan. 4 at age 79. A Vigil will be held on Feb. 24 from 5-7 p.m. at Swan-Law Funeral Chapel, 501 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, 80903. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, 3122 Poinsetta Dr., Colorado Springs, 80907.
Evelyn was born Dec. 18, 1946 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. Her family moved to Chicago when she was four years old, and she graduated from John Marshall High School in 1965. She met her husband Dick while working at Xerox Corp. in 1974. The couple moved to Colorado Springs in 1988.
As a parishioner of Our Lady Guadalupe for 18 years, Evelyn assisted with the youth group, attending three World Youth Day pilgrimages to Denver, Rome, and Ontario, Canada. She was also an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, lector and church environment volunteer, Cursillista, marriage preparation volunteer, and Marian House Kitchen coordinator.
Her spiritual journey led her to become a parishioner at Holy Trinity Parish, where she continued to be the Coordinator of Volunteers. She later coordinated volunteers from Black Forest Lutheran Church at the Marian House Kitchen for another 18 years. Under her leadership, it has been said that her volunteer crew “worked like a well-oiled machine”.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Catholic Charities of Central Colorado/Marian House Kitchen.
