In Memoriam: Sister Frances Sedlacek, OSF
COLORADO SPRINGS. Sister Frances Sedlacek, OSF, died Feb. 20 at St. Francis Nursing Center following a five-year cancer diagnosis. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 2 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Colorado Springs, followed by burial in Mount St. Francis Cemetery.
Sister Frances was born July 31, 1948, in Omaha, Nebraska. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education, majoring in physical education and math, at Wayne State College in 1972. In 1979, she received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with middle school endorsement from Chadron State College. In 1982, she earned a master’s degree in counseling from Creigton University in Omaha.
Sister Frances entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration in Colorado Springs on Sept. 5, 1976, and made final vows on Aug. 2, 1983. She would have celebrated her 50th jubilee in September.
Sister Frances’ teaching experience as a religious was at Scotus Jr. High School in Columbus, Nebraska, and St. Paul School in Colorado Springs. Sister Frances also ministered in the community as Canonical Treasurer, council and corporate board member, Vocation Directress, Companion Co-Director and as a board member for Women Partnering.
She is survived by her brothers Thomas, Don, Bob and Joe and her sisters Mary and Linda.
