When a bishop is ordained, the Church asks him to design a coat of arms.  The coat of arms utilizes symbols to identify the bishop.  One of the symbols that I selected can appear strange at a first glance. On the top right of the coat of arms is an image of a mother pelican bird with her children gathered around her in their nest.

COLORADO SPRINGS.  The St. John Henry Newman Chapel and Catholic Student Center is inviting residents to help celebrate its one-year anniversary.

The chapel and student center will hold an open house and tours of its facility on March 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The facility is a spiritual home for young adults ages 18-23 in the Diocese of Colorado Springs where they can attend mass and participate in spiritual activities.

Windy Wednesday” — Dec. 15, 2021 — won’t be a day that we Coloradoans will soon forget. The day was surreal with fences collapsing, trampolines soaring, semi-trucks toppling, buildings damaged or destroyed and then there were the trees! Our trees seemed to be yanked up from the ground then crashed down crushing everything beneath their weight. Many trees snapped in half like pretzel sticks others miraculously landing perfectly on the ground completely missing the nearby parked car. Some not so lucky.

Recently our Diocesan Office of Stewardship and Development helped me to send a mailing to each family in the diocese. In that mailing, I simply asked you to offer any prayer intentions to me. We then divided up all the families’ intentions into specific days and times during which I would take time to pray for those intentions.

SECURITY. Knights of Columbus Council No. 4636 at St. Dominic Parish in Security will hold a Mass for families with children with special needs on Feb. 19 at 10 a.m. Father John Stearns will be the celebrant.  The Mass will provide a quieter, less stimulating environment with fewer stressors to cause anxiety. The lights will be dim, there will be no ringing of bells and no choir singing. A deaf interpreter will be provided and ushers will be available to assist with seating. Refreshments will be served in the narthex after Mass. Those who plan to attend are asked to RSVP to John Mascitelli at 719-306-5101 or windstaraviation@hotmail.com.
