COLORADO SPRINGS. Catholic Charities of Central Colorado is seeking assistance from the community to counteract a drop in donations amid a surge in demand for services.

According to a Feb. 1 statement issued by Catholic Charities, the agency is experiencing a donations shortfall of more than $628,000. “The hardest hit programs are the Marian House Kitchen, The Marketplace pantry, and Marian House Emergency Services, although all programs share the financial burden of decreased donations,” said Andy Barton, President and CEO of Catholic Charities.

Joy! That is the main word that comes to mind as I look back on the 2024 Diocesan Youth Pilgrimage to Washington, D.C., for the National March for Life on Jan. 19.

Our group of 32 (19 youth, 13 chaperones) was enormously blessed by the entire experience. Thank you to every one of you who made this pilgrimage possible by your generous support of the Bishop’s Respect Life Fund whether through periodic donations or through your gifts at the Bishop’s Respect Life Roundup.

Am I my brothers’ keeper?” – Genesis 4:9

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

“Am I my brother’s keeper?” There is a temptation to answer this question — asked by Cain after he killed his brother Abel — in the negative. But to answer “no” to that question would be a flawed understanding of this passage in the Book of Genesis.
