Jay Cimino, Catholic businessman and philanthropist, dies Feb. 24 at 87

COLORADO SPRINGS. Gerald “Jay” Cimino, the retired president and CEO of the Phil Long Dealerships who was known throughout the Pikes Peak region for his philanthrophic activities, died Feb. 24 in Colorado Springs. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on March 1 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Church. Due to the number of people who are anticipated to attend the funeral, it will also be livestreamed on the St. Paul Parish website at https://stpaulcos.org/livestream. Interment follows at Shrine of Remembrance. Bishop James Golka will offer the St. Patrick’s Day Mass on March 16 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral for the repose of his soul.

Father Kyle Ingels to leave campus ministry in June; will serve as Vicar General

COLORADO SPRINGS. Bishop James Golka announced that Father Kyle Ingels, who has served as Director of Campus Ministry at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) since 2014, will complete his service in campus ministry in June 2024. Father Ingels will be appointed Vicar General for the Diocese of Colorado Springs effective July 1, 2024, with anticipated residence in a parish. A new Director of Campus Ministry will be announced in early May of 2024.  Father Ingels will continue serving as Vocations Director for the diocese.

Men and women entering religious life asked to notify diocese

COLORADO SPRINGS. The Diocese of Colorado Springs is seeking information on men and women who have entered or will enter a religious order this year. Those whose names are submitted will be included in a poster inviting the faithful to pray for and support vocations to religious life. Please send an email to Veronica Ambuul at editor@coloradocatholicherald.com with the following information: name, home parish, name of religious order, stage of formation and headshot. Deadline is April 15, 2024.

On Jan. 30, 1984, a Mass was held at Pikes Peak Center celebrating the establishment of the Diocese of Colorado Springs and the installation of its first bishop, Richard C. Hanifen. This is a recording of the Mass as broadcast live on KRDO, including the famous "papal bull" incident involving Papal Nuncio Pio Laghi that is often retold by Bishop Hanifen.
