BLESSINGS IN BLOOM: Hardscapes can provide sanctuaries of peace

Have you ever found yourself walking in a garden or on a path and happened upon a breathtaking statue of St. Francis of Assisi or a beautiful water fountain busy with birds splashing? It is sometimes in the awe of these moments that a person feels closest to God. He or she might silently thank him for encountering such beauty, or might think, “God sent this sacred message, personally, to me.”

Como obispo de la diócesis que tiene su sede en la Ciudad Olímpica, me sentí profundamente conmocionado y entristecido al presenciar la exhibición blasfema durante la ceremonia de apertura de las Olimpiadas en París. La vergonzosa burla de la Última Cena causó una gran herida en el corazón de Jesús y en el de muchos cristianos de todo el mundo.  ¿Cómo respondemos a esto los católicos?

As the bishop of the diocese that has its home in the Olympic City, I was deeply shocked and saddened to witness the blasphemous display during the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Paris.
